Between 1965 and 1969, the underground press in the U.S. grew from five to over 500 newspapers, uniting the 1960s counterculture. Frustrated by mainstream media's lack of Vietnam War criticism and inspired by Civil Rights victories, a generation sought change. "On the Ground" captures this era through key figures' stories and over 100 full-color scans, offering a vivid glimpse into the spirit of the times.
