Maybelline Skvortzoff is a french comic artist living in Belgium. Dirty Panties is her first long comic
She will be exhibiting original arte from Dirty panties as well as some recent pages from her next comic
Maybelline Skvortzoff was born in 1993 in Hauts-de-Seine, to a Cambodian mother and a Russian father. Her first name does not come from the makeup brand but from the Chuck Berry song.
She spent her high school years slacking off, swallowing dozens of horror films and reading Daniel Clowes and Joe Matt comics. After being thrown out of all the art school competitions in France (her drawing was described as a "failed plagiarism of Robert Crumb"), she found refuge in Brussels: she studied comics at the Institut Saint-Luc, then a master's degree at the École de Recherche Graphique. Her final project was a comic strip about a pedophile who would never commit a crime. This work was not unanimously approved. Her years in Brussels were marked by partying and drugs.
Her first graphic novel Roxane vend ses culottes (Dirty Panties) is published in September 2022.
Maybelline Skvortsov is the winner of the comic scholarship for emerging authors awarded by FICOMIC, Institut français de Barcelone and the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l'image. She is currently in Barcelona working on her next comic
